Seven of my cousins were in an air raid shelter in Black Stock, off Scotland Road, Liverpool. The shelter was directly bombed, and ironically their house was left unscathed.
Among my seven cousins there were twins, who were badly mutilated. When they were found only their faces were recognisable. When their father heard the bomb he ran to the shelter and started tearing through the rubble. He heard a cry and managed to find his son (aged 11). He was the only surviving child, alongside his mother.
He is still alive today and came to live with us until he was 15 years old. I will not name him in case it causes him grief.
