I got evacuated with people. Between 6pm 鈥 10pm everynight I was in theor pub. It was not a good experience I was about 10 years old staying in the pub until 10p m on school days meant I was falling asleep at my desk.
When my mother came she disapproved so I was moved on. I was cheeky and as people got sick of me I鈥檇 get moved on every 6 or 8 months.
My sister and brother also came to Wisbeach which was exciting. My sister fell in the canal - she had followed my brother who was fishing. Someone pointed her out 鈥渢here鈥檚 a girl in there!鈥 then they got her out. We got up to mischief 鈥 that鈥檚 just one of the things we did. We all were separated from each other when evacuated.
By this time air raids were rare in London so we returned until V1, V2鈥檚 started and we decided to get out of there quickly. We went to Scotland and stayed there.
I dodn鈥檛 think much of Scotlands education. We used to have 5 taws 鈥 a leather strap to punish us. I got behind in subjects because of moving around so much. It was hard to catch up and I wasn鈥檛 happy with the education I received.
When the war in Europe ended I returned to London and left school when I was 15. 4or 5 months later the war in Japan ended, which ended the whole war episode.
The closest I came to any harm was a piece of brick hit me on the head during a bombing raid, that鈥檚 the worst that happened to me in that sense
