Ron Cox was five at the time of this story and is now 68. He had just started infant
September 1942
school at Twydall lane Gillingham he had been taken for a nature walk around the school field which was then allotments when a squadron of about twelve spitfires flying overhead he can remember waving at the pilots as they flew over when one of the planes let of smoke from the rear he dived away from the rest of the squadron and crashed in the field nearby which is now approximately where the twydall lane shopping centre in Gillingham is now.
