When I was eighteen I was part of a mantenance unit at the airbase in Dumfries. We did everything from taking delivery of new aircraft, maintaining the planes, and sending equipment out to units.
I was involved in looking after the stores and reported to Mr Gibson. When the north African thing started we had to equip our tanks, and paint them all white!
I always felt my work was important and secret.
