My cousin was in a Guards Regiment, in Italy.Travelling along a road ,near a big monastery, the soldiers were jumped on by a large force of Germans, who oppened fire on them.It was sosudden, it was a case of every man for himself. My cousinjumped over a stone wall, which was about 4ft high on the road side, but about 20 ft. of a drop on the other side.My cousin was in dreadful pain, but managed to crawl some distance to an Aid Station. On being examined by a doctor, the man said "Youve broken your neck, Good God man,you should be dead" He did recover , and lived until about 1994.
