My Grandfather, Robert Marshall was put into the Engineers during the war as he was a builder before the war. He was the only English man in his own platoon, the rest were scottish. He was assigned onto the Fakenham 1st Battelion. He was then sent of to Egypt. When the Italians invaded he was captured and sent of to Italy. Later during the war when the Allies invaded Italy, He was let out. Thousands of British POWs were trying to get back to the Allied lines. Then Robert was captured by the Germans.He was rounded up with other captured. They were then deathmarched to Poland. Most of my Grandfathers friends died along the way. He was then liberated by the Russians in 1945. He made it back to Britain and died in the year 2000.
