I worked in London during the war, in a grocers. It was my job to divide up the rations. Well that could be a thankless task, especially when the men came off shift on a Saturday and found there were no rations left. Some of them wanted to jump over the counter, and the language was terrible!

My sister-in-law married on Battle of Britain Day. They spent all day in the shelter. When they did come out the sky was full airmen.

We would go dancing up the West End after work; Covent Garden had been turned into a place for dancing. There were people from all nations there; the Free French, Poles, and of course Americans.

We were blasted out of our house by bombing a few times, but we still went back. We didn鈥檛 get any counselling, or even expect any.

I don鈥檛 really have any other memories. The war was so much a part of everyday life, you didn鈥檛 really take special notice.
