This is Frank Wheeler before he left for D DAY Plus 6.
This story was submitted for Mrs Wheeler by children from Ashby de la Zouch Church of England Primary School.In the the Kings Royal Rifle Corps, in 1939 after training he went to france on"D" day plus 6.He travelled through France, Belgium and Germany.He became very ill in Holland after V E.day and then he was sent to Tripoli North Africa.After his miltary duty he spent the afternoons learning to sail.He was about to be sent to America to train to be a parachutist and learn how to drop down from a glilder.That was cancelled due to the end of the war in Japan -V.J. day. Afterwards he was returned to England to be demobilised in December 1945.
