This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Mike Warke of Congleton Museum on behalf of Hilda Cliffe and has been added to the site with his/her permission. The author fully understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.

John (Paddy) Mould 3536496 1st Batt. Manchester Regiment, C Company joined 18th August 1940 as a machine gunner but was put with signals corp. He was admitted to Alexandra Hospital, Singapore on 14/15th February 1942, suffering from malaria.

Japanese forces moved in and killed everyone without bandages. Hilda received a letter 4 years later on 8th April 1946 to explain the above. This followed a missing report that was received in 1942.

Hilda would like to know if anyone knew him or could tell her more of the time when Singapore fell on 15th February 1942.

Message 1 - Military Hospital Singapore

Posted on: 04 October 2005 by babycreina

Hello, My dad was in the R.A.M.C. and if my memory serves me right worked in the Alexandra at the Fall of Singapore. He was taken P.O.W.My mother had escaped on "The Duchess Of Bedford". He remained on as a career soldier after the war. Does anyone recall Herbert William Marshall in Changi? He was in the ranks at the time of the Japanese invasion.
