My father and two other neighbours kept saying that there would not be a war and then, on the Sunday morning of 3rd September,it happened. We went to the Town Hall at Salford and were told that we(the children) were to leave Pendleton Station with some other children we knew for Fleetwood and we could join them. This we did. When we arrived at Fleetwood we were taken to the Floral Hall to be chosen by a family.Noreen and Bernard were soon chosen because of their age, but May and Jimmy(about 14 months old) and myself who was told I had to stay with May were not chosen until the end of the afternoon. We were then sent home with a person who was prepared to take the three of us. After tea, we went to a phone box to let the families know where we were living. The following day my mother and May's mother in law came to see where we were staying. They weren't happy about the accommodation and took us (3of us) home in the back of a furniture van belonging to May's in laws. In all we were evacuated for 24 hours. Noreen and Bernard stayed in Fleetwood much longer than our 24 hours.
