I remember when i was about 17 and on the Friday Nights I would go and see my Mum in the centre of St Pauls. One night when i was visiting her the sirens went - there was a factory down there called Huggins and we were able to use it as an air raid shelter. On my way to the shelter I noticed a little girl about 6 years old and so i picked her up and toook her to the shelter with me. She was called Emily. When the all clear was sounded, I took her home with me as we couldn't find her family. She stayed with my family for several weeks. My brother Charles Edward worked in military intelligence and he was eventually able to find her family. We kept in touch for many many years after that.
