It was a sad day when mum, me and my sister stood on Peterborough station waving goodbye to my two brothers, Sydney and Jack. Sydney was 18 and Jack 20. They were going away to war.
Sydney went to Burma. He wrote home several times but never came home on leave. After three years the letters stopped. It wasn鈥檛 until 1946 when my uncle got the Red Cross to investigate that we found that he had died in Burma.
Jack came home on several leaves before eventually being captured in Germany doing undercover work. He died whilst being held prisoner of war. My mother was informed by letter.
My father was a prisoner held by the Japanese and also died.
My mother, myself and my sister worked in the shoe trade after the war.
We will never forget our loss due to the war and will always remember our menfolk.
