We lived in 3 Denis Park Crescent, Wimbledon SW20 during the war, my brother Allan, parents George and Doris. I was a child.
One day, I was sitting in the dining room looking out of a window and I saw a German ME109 Messerschmitt that was below rooftop. I could see the pilot sitting very clearly in his plane. He was looking for opportunity. He was below ACK ACK gun height; the main one was at the railway. The only other thing that could have got him was the barrage balloon wires. I understand he'd been firing at people at the recreation ground in Dun Donald Road.
I was surprised more than anything to see him so close.
