I was living in Apsley Cotts, Chartham near Canterbury during the war with my older brother and sister and my mother.
So, September 3rd 1939, 11 am, war is declared. Sirens sound. Mum and myself go into neighbours with gas mask (Mrs Lucas). There's talk of wet blankets if gas attack.
All clear! Ted went off to join the Grenadier Guards.
I remember Mum's happiness and relief when Ted came home on sick leave after being wounded at Casino.
