John Comins (My Grandma鈥檚 brother)
by Andy Forster
Joined the East Yorkshire Regiment (鈥淭he Commercials鈥) in 1916 and rapidly (as often the case in war) promoted to Corporal. However, decided that he didn鈥檛 like giving orders to his mates and handed his stripes back, 鈥渂ecoming a private again鈥.
Came home on leave in 1917 in a terrible state, just sitting in a chair in his greycoat picking lice out of his coat and clothes with a pin, sometimes burning them off with matches.
鈥淪topped a bullet鈥 in mid-March 1918 and died a few days later. Buried at Frevent
in large British cemetery.
