During the war I lived near Canterbury and I was friends with a young lad of about 10 years old. He lived in London but he was evacuated down to stay with his grandad who had a farm. We used to go along to the Amercans who were based on the Stone Street, a well known Roman road in Canterbury. We used to go on a pony and cart after school, and get the swill for his Grandad's pigs. In the bottom of the swill though, the Americans would put sugar and other black market food that we couldn't get. I don't know what the farmer did with it, but that was a good story I thought. I think the local police were probably in on it too!
