At the age of seven I was taken by my mother away from the London Blitz for safety and we stayed in City Road, Tilehurst. One day I went out to play with some of the local boys and when I came home said to my mother - "We have been down to the farm and seen some heifers - but it's not swearing, Mum, honest!"
