Peggy's husband Bill was in the air force and Peggy was living in a cottage in Perry with her baby son Michael the cottage was surrounded by farmland. Peggy knew there were a couple of farmworkers in the field ,so Peggy put the radio on to listen to the news and the announcement of the D Day landings in France was on. So Peggy ran from the house up the road to the farmworkers and yelled out to them 'We've landed We've landed.

The men leaned on their hoes and exclaimed 'Oh'

Peggy in tears ran home to tend her baby son. The wireless was left on all day waiting for more news of D Day.
