I joined up in 1940 at Padgate - well known to the RAFs. I moved from Padgate to Blackpool and did my wireless operating training there. I Went from Blackpool to Lynton-on-Ouse and from there to India in 1941.
I spent a year in India and was based in Mauripur. We were also sent to a place in the Bundu, in the wilds, and we were did a whole range of duties - winding vulti vengance (dive bombers) up, guarding areoplanes. I was also stationed at Dum Dum outside Calcutta and Behala. I was in a plotting room there.
And then I came back home to do an air gunners course in 1942. After the course I went to the British West Indies - Naussau and there I did the OTU on twin engines and then onto Liberators. I was posted onto 120 squadron and then down to St Eval in Cornwall where I was on 547 squadron and then 53 squadron which I went up to Iceland with and spent the rest of the war there.
I finished up to VJ day at Little Rissington on number 6 PAFU.
My wife was on the same station - we were married at the time!
