I am writing this letter as my husband was in the Royal Engineers. He was stationed at Crewe and I went to see him for two weeks. The sirens went whilst I was there, we all had to get out of bed and go into a big shelter. You see the Rolls Royce factory was at the bottom of the street, the following morning, I saw a German plane go pass my window, and I saw the pilot. It was brought down three miles from the factory.

I had the experience of seeing a German bomber on top of Manchester Railway Station, whilst on my way to Ripon, in Yorkshire, to visit my husband.

The sirens went again at Ripon, they dropped three bombs at Harrogate, and it blew the back door off the house in which I was staying.

I also went to a troop ship to Northern Ireland my husband confidently said we would be said we would be safe there, as they would now have any air raids. Of course the following morning the sirens sounded, you see a Battle ship had arrived in the harbour, it just seemed that the bombers followed me around.
