Staffs County Council libraries, on behalf of the author, have submitted this story. The author fully understands the rules and regulations of the People's War website.

I was leading A Company of the 6th North Staffords on to Juno beach. As we came ashore the beaches were clear and passages marked by white tape. We got ashore without casualties. In A and B Company each soldier had a bicycle so we had to get down the side of the landing craft carrying not only rifles and equipment but also bikes, which with a heavy swell running was not easy. On leaving the beach area we then cycled to our rendezvous point all hoping that we could cycle faster than the Germans could run!!
