We were tied up at the North West wall at Portsmouth. I was in the bathroom clad in my underpants (cellular drawers long)scrubbing a hammock when the sliding door opened and there stood 2 admirals and a civilian. The first admiral asked me how long I had been in the Navy and if I liked it, so I said yes. I wiped my hands on my underpants to get the soap off and all 3 of them shook hands with me. The first admiral was Lord Mountbatten, the second was Admiral Ramsey, and the civilian was Anthony Eden.
Not many people have shaken hands with 2 Admirals and a Foreign Secretary whilst in their underpants.
