Most vivd memory was of the land mine that fell on Knightswood that killed around nine people. The windows in her house were shattered. So. they move to another house in the country for a year and suffered quite a culture shock! There was no running water in the house and they had to gather water form the well in the street but she remebers it being a happy time as it was far from all the bombs and guns. When the family got back they performed concerts in their back yard to raise funds for the forces. She remembers it being the only time she sang a solo and the song was- "I'll be your sweetheart". The second night of the Clydebank blitz they shared a shelter and remmbers falling to ground when 'big bertha' was fired (the friendly gun in the fields). Even though they were frigtened they found plenty of things to amuse themselves. Looking back, she remebers it a happy time but with a little bit of aprehension.
When Margaret turned fourteen she left school and when she was seventeen she joined the TA- as a way to learn how to drive- she passed her test on three turn trucks.
