My father, Charles John Ernest Bamford, was on fire watch duty in Shepherd鈥檚 Bush in London, and I, four-year old Marie Y. Bamford, was at home with my mother, Elsie L. Bamford, when the air raid warning went off. She was carrying me to the shelter with a small torch for light. The local warden shouted for her to 鈥減ut that light out鈥�.
