During the war years there were many weddings when the two main participants wore their Service Uniform, or ordinary clothes. There wasn’t much chance of obtaining a white dress for the bride though, but some did manage it — probably a gift or loan from someone who was married before the war. Clothing was rationed, as was material for making them.
Few, if any, wore black for Funerals, again because of rationing. Petrol too was rationed and many people had to lay up their cars because only people who were essential users were allowed to have petrol. That was used for farming, and essential purposes was coloured red and there were separate coupons for it
