When I was an Aircraft Electrician stationed at R.A.F. Waltham, I was checking a plane returned from a Test flight, when I felt the plane start to vibrate. I immediately evacuated the plane and ran. After half a mile I looked back; the plane was still there so I went back and found a 4,000lb bomb (a Cookie) had dropped from the plane and was on the concrete, in which there was a huge crack. I notified the Armoury Corporal who didn't appear unduly worried. He said this had happened before, so I went for my lunch. However a similar thing had happened on another Station and a number of people were killed or injured and planes damaged.
