Dunkirk

The world felt a shiver of horror
And stout hearts sickened with gloom
And even the wisest of England
Could see naught for the army but gloom

Doomed by the act of a Judas
More Judas than Judas could be
He for the price of a castle
Had sold their retreat to the see

Sold by the king of the Belgium's
With His Honour Country and soul
O'h shame on his pitiful army
And with the path to his goal

I'm the victim of evil and tyranny
Was the lure to the trap when set?
And like the Heights of Treachery
The Allies sped up north with regret

There was enemy pouring on all sides
Just like rats through a Hamlin street
And was then that the Herr Hitler stumbled
And blotted his honour with defeat

By the act were the Allies in trouble
With a battering ring of steel
Now is the time snarled Herr Hitler
To get these men under my heel

But he miscounted the spirit of England
Now roused by the plight of her sons
A plight that was made more helpless
By a sorrowful shortage of guns

Never right down through the ages
From when this world started to spin
Never a mantrap more hellish
Than that what our lads were caught in

But as the jaws of the trap closed around them
They breathed out a prayer to their god
And started a rear guard action
Which crimsoned the green Belgium sod

Today men speak of the battle
How was fought with courage sublime
While the world Watched breathless with wonder
Deeds that will live for all time

Lacking in all but great courage
Fighting with Blistering guns
O'h shame on the states men of England
Who neglected the arms of there sons?

Thank God for the courage of England
Which she gives to her sons to fight on?
For without it they would have all perished
Out numbered an Hundred to one

With me aid of our swift moving airmen
Who startled the stars with there flight?
They battled there way to the coastline
In an action that splintered the night

Back slowly through crumbling cities
With rifles they steadied the tanks
While dive bombing planes with Yammering Guns
Made hideous gaps in their ranks

O'h mourn ye the size of our air force
When compared with the swastikas fleet
But salute ye their measureless valour
Which can't spell the word called defeat

Like hawks from the storm shattered pine trees
Defending there young from the crows
They haunted their bale bombing monsters
And laughed at there battered blows

Upon reaching that bomb battered coastline
Our lads waded into the foam
To be saved by the strangest armada
That ever called England its home

There were tramps and old paddle steamers
Destroyers and old motorboats
Manned by the people of England
Whose motto was fight while she floats?

Many was smashed in the minefields
A shell sank many
But never a single one faulted
In sailing their ships in the swell

Great was the scene as it progressed
Small in the way I have seen
But when the record of this is finished in heaven
Dunkirk will be lettered Supreme
