In January of 1941, my Father's ship the Zealandic was sunk and all hands were lost.
In May of the same year, our house was ed. I then went to school one morning and that had been ed! So I had no school to go to for a week.
The Education Department decided to send all the pupils from our ed Protestant school to a local Catholic school - a big deal in those days on Merseyside! Protestant pupils were to go in the morning and Catholic pupils were to go to school in the afternoon, to keep them separate.
My first morning to go (being a Protestant) I turned the corner into St Mary's school, Wallasey....and that had been ed too!!!
Shortly after that, I was evacuacted to Disley, between Manchester and Buxton - where couldn't find me!
There wasn't another air raid on Merseyside after I left - so it must have been me was looking for!
