The area in which we had arrived was typical of a very pleasant picnic spot and appeared to be so green and peaceful as compared with those treacherous Atlas Mountains, through which we had recently ventured between Algeria and Tunisia. It was, however, to be just the lull before the storm. During a stroll around the neighbourhood, in an off-duty period, I met one of our Officers, who told me that the Americans had suffered a reversal to the extent of some 30 miles, over the hill to the South of our position, and having regained only some 6 miles on the following day. He said 'Ledbury, we are now in a very precarious position!'
