Evacuation
Just before the beginning of the war I was "Privately" evacuated to Doddington in Kent where I was with a group of young people - Muriel Monica and Patricia are names I remember - at the Lady Margaret establishment run by Dr Josia Oldfield.

Later I was brought back to London and "Officially" evacuated to Little Chalfont in Bucks.

I should have been with Mr and Mrs Phelps but they were out when the Evacuation Officer called so I went to Mr and Mrs Hatherall. Later Mrs Hatherall became ill so I did end up with Mr and Mrs Phelps.

One night I had a massive nose bleed while in bed and Mrs Phelps wanted to call in her own doctor but the authorities decreed that they should handle matters. I went to a hospital and, when released was sent to a farm worker's cottage in Little Missenden. Neither my Mother nor the Phelps could find out where I was.

Of the 10 cildren in the cottage, 8 went down with Diptheria - which meant 8 swabs !

Eventually the Phelps family located me and retreived me. There I stayed until I was returned to my Mother, by then in Hassocks, Sussex.

While in Little Chalfont I went to a school at Chenies - I walked there and back, and also on one night a week walked back to Chenies for Cubs.

I have fond memories of all those whom I met with while evacuated and would be happy to meet up with those of my generation [the Olds would by now have died]. Especially I would like to contact the Doddington girls and the Phelps children - and other children at the school and in Little Chalfont.
