I served as an Air Bomber, (Navigation) with 6th Groups of Bomber Command. I kept fairly a fairly good log and I never have a record of "targeting residential" German targets. I was amazed at how we bombed the railway marshalling yards at Cologne, many times and yet when I had a beer at the railway cafe, there was Cologne Cathedral not more that 500 feet from me and it seemed that only a corner of the fabric had had to be restored. Bombing rfailway yards was nearly futile because the passage of trains was quickly restored. At the time of the battle of the Buldge this time was nevertheless very valuble. FGD
