I was a wireless operator and one day we were crossing a river in a dingy. We were being bombed and shelled by the Germans and I said to my mate that I couldn鈥檛 swim. He said it didn鈥檛 matter if I could because I had the radio strapped to my back and that would take me to the bottom anyway, not funny!
