The following story has been added to the website by 大象传媒 Radio Cornwall Action Producer Nina Davey, on behalf of the author John Parkin who understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.
Farmland at St Eval and St Mawgan was being taken for the new aerodromes and the land used for crops decreased. When the air raids started our airplanes were sent out to the fields but the ground was very boggy and they got bogged down and would have to be pulled out again. To counteract this wire meshing was rolled out like a carpet, it was interspersed with bars of flat iron. When this was down the aircraft could go on it.
