I was 8 at the time of the Battle of Britain. We
Lived in north Kent and there were dogfights
overhead all the time. On the 15th September
I saw a Spitfire shoot down a Dornier bomber
which crashed in Barnehurst golf course
near the club house.
We all ran to the plane but I had to stop
as I could not get over a high wall.
My father went on and I heard a loud explosion
from the plane which was burning.
Later when I got home a policeman came
to tell us that my father was badly injured.
I later discovered that the Spitfire was piloted
