I was five when war broke out and lived on a farm in rural Shatterford with my parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister. There was an area of waste land half a mile from our house where we used to play regularly which we called Romscoms. One day, two bombs were dropped in this area, shaking our house near by and leaving two huge crators. Soon after I went to have a look at the bombsite and collected a large piece of shrapnel which I have kept until very recently.
