My father was always telling me stories about living on a tank in the desert as a Desert rat under Monty . A short one to start off but one which interested me was that they would cook eggs on the tank itself . They were so hot that you could break a egg and cook it quickley by just breaking in on any panel which was flat and cleanish ? . Sounded ok actually , but was probably the reason for my fathers ulcer in later life i think . Its just a very simple example of a war experience . So when you moan about your eggs think again ? .These fellas were tough .

What really caused your Father's unlcer was the fact that the eggs fried so quickly the damned things were burned before you could scrape them up !

another little trick we had - we were always thinking about our stomachs ! -
was at what we thought might be the end of a day's battle - we would put five tins of M & V ( MacConnachies Meat & Veg from the first war (!)) into the engine compartment for heating up. Most times Jerry would surprise us and we would forget the dinner until later -- we then had to scrape off the M&V from all over the engine !
The 'Bengazi' kettle sure helped to get a cuppa going within 90 seconds from the word go !
