In the fourth week of my basic training, dressed in sports jacket and flannels, I was on Guard Duty on the main gate of the training camp, complete with rifle and fixed bayonet when a car entered and passed through, containing the camp Chaplain. He stopped and getting out of his car, walked over and gave me a dressing-down for not giving him the salute his rank called for. On my first charge, I was awarded 3 days stoppage of leave!!!
This was the first and last charge of my naval career!
