My maternal grandparents lived in Kingsland Road, West Mersea.

Mum and I travelled to visit them on Eastern National double decker buses.

On one occasion past the Peldon Rose junction at the beginning of the causeway to Mersea Island, an armed soldier boarded the bus to inspect identity cards.

My card was DBTL-94-4.

DBTL = Don't be too late! Easily remembered.
