When I say I was evacuated from France people always assume it was from Dunkirk. In actual fact I was evacuated from Le Havre. We were support troops for the 51st Highland Division - they werte surrendered to Rommel. We continued fighting and eventually reached Le Havre. We all reached the Le Hvare Wood and spent five days there before the ship arrived to take us off. Several men were lost during this time as aresult of air raids.
The story of our escape was told in "Scorched earth and escape".
