At our base in Cairo, the Officer in Charge had looked at our letters home complaining about the length of time away. He said "You must retain a sense of humour".
When we were finally ready to go home, we travelled from Germany to the hook of Holland and Harwich and then on to Carlisle.
At last we were demobbed in Carlisle in 1946. We went to Bradford for Civvies -- I was 26 then. We were demobbed by age and length of service.
