I remember the siren sounding and the doodle bug (V1) coming over and heard the engine stop and a shushing noise as it came down - my grandmother, friend and I could tell it was coming down close to us. The next thing I knew I came too, I survived luckily but unfortunately my grandmother and friend didn't. I was only 16 at the time and got out of the shelter and called out for help for my grandmother and friend. The warden then came and took me to a neighbours home and cleaned me up as best they could. I felt total shock and very dazed and covered in tiny bits of metal buried into my skin. Eventually, they came out but this is still my most vivid memory of the war.
