Maud Talbot was coming on to 16 when the war started. She first heard of the war on the 3rd September 1939, her hometown is Darlington she lived with her mam, dad, two sisters and a brother. While we were interviewing her we noticed three medals on her jacket we asked her what they meant and if they were hers she said 鈥渢hat they belong to her brother and that he got them for serving in the war but as he died in the war he was unable to receive them so she received them for him. She was a religious person. This day she envies鈥檚 young children as they have better education than she had at her age. She was very frightened when bombs raids began. Maud Talbot was born outside of Newcastle but moved to Darlington. She went away to get a degree as a nursery nurse all the money that she made had to be given to her family then her family would give only a little bit of it to spend. Everyone was against war in other words liked world peace. At the regent in Redcar in other words the regent used to be a theatre and the army used to provide concerts to the local people. She met her husband at a dance. When the got married she had to make her wedding dress by buying and swapping to get plenty of white wool. Maud said that if she wasn鈥檛 a nursery nurse she would of liked to be in the A.T.S (the women鈥檚 army) were they would help the men but doing stuff for them like cleaning for them and other stuff. Maud did not know anyone that was evacuated. While she was a nursery nurse she ware a nurse鈥檚 cap and a blue and white bib. When she washed her cloths she washed them 3 times a week, she loved her job a lot, she would wake up at 6:00 am to catch the 6:40 am bus to get to work. Maud would go to bed at 9:00pm. In her house her mother would do all the cooking, she lived on Laurence Street in their house it was all hand washing. The weather during the war was really good summers and really bad winters. She was always worried when her husband went away, her dad never went to war and she said that everyone tells lies. Her and her husband got married 3 years after meeting each other. As Maud said you leave school at the age of 14. Her brother who went in the war dies at the age of 24 he dies while he was in a submarine and no one has ever found his body.
