Convoys to U.S.S.R.

Memory of a West Cowick, Yorks. resident.

Our convoy journeyed around the North Cape to Russia. Apart from the hardship and death on these journeys, I remember that when we arrived, I was surprised to see women waiting on the quayside with pots of paint. As each vehicle was put onto the quay, they stepped forward and painted out all the indications of where they had come from.
