Three bombs were dropped that night (Aug or Sept 1939) when I was 11 years old. My grandmother’s business was called Esther’s Sweet Shop. Our house was at the back of the shop. The planes came over and dropped a bomb on the market hall in the Bullring. The second one was in the square at Lewis’ Dept. Store. The third one was on my grandparent’s house. We went into the cellar (which was full of coke, coal and boxes) and we were pulled out by police and firemen. (The bomb exploded) and the cellar in the house was demolished and we would have been dead had we stayed in the cellar. The dog and cat were in the cellar.
