I remember blackouts, air raid shelters and baffle walls. I was 10 when the War started.
You had to take a gas mask in a cardboard box to school. You were warned about bombs when the siren alert went.
You got kept in at a blackout untill the all clear went off. It was a horrible sound. Both the all clear and the alert. It was eerie. You could feel your blood curdling.
Ration books, even although I was only 10, they worried me. I went on my National Service in West Kirby, Liverpool. We were on reserve for 15 years after that.
