Message 1 - George Stoakes

Posted on: 20 January 2006 by Donald Rayner

Hi Georgina
Your story about your father hit home with me. Those who served aboard the fishing trawlers converted to mine sweeping had a rough and dangerous job.
Sam Coates a fisherman also was in the navy and served on such vessels. I was surprised one day, sitting by the Naffi canteen in Freetown Africa when Sam came walking by. Ralph may remember Sam. he lived in Highfield Avenue. Thanks for the story
