My name is Phyllis Duffy, nee Overy. I was born on 26th October 1935 and had two older sisters and 8 Brothers. By the 23rd October 1940, there were 3 more additions to our family and I and 2 older brothers were evacuated to Kittle Bishopston in South Wales.
Together with lots of other children we were all put in the local scouts hut and fed.
Gradually people came and took children away, as well as the two boys, which left only three girls.
Then a Mr. and Mrs Richards came and took us 3 to live with their own 2 girls.
We went down the hill to a big house, with me sitting on "Uncle Bryns" shoulders. "Aunty Wynn made us hot chocolate and I drank mine from a saucer siting on Uncle Bryns lap.
We were treated like their own 2 girls and had a fantastic time. The two boys wer'nt so lucky and were moved a couple of times. They used to call for us, to go to school, but were always given breakfast first.
We came home in March 1943 ( much to my disgust) and found two new sisters and another brother, bringing the total to 10 boys and 7 girls.
I shall always look upon the years spent in Wales as the besy time of my childhood.
