I had just got back from my auntie Janes when my mum said to me "Dorris, go and put those blackout curtains up we don't want the ARP complaing again do we? (we had forgot to put them up one night.)" I just went down stairs to eat my sweets what mum had just bought back out of our ration book, we used to count down the days till Monday as that was the day mum left the house extra early to get all the good buys of the week whae there it went that dastardly siren went off. Then mum said " come on kids we 'av to get under that morrison shelter, Jim get thase butties I made for tommorows lunch, I've got a feeling were gonna be under here a long time" For the first time in the war I cried, over that flamming siren, never did afterwards either.
