Before the D day landings, June '44, all wheeled vehicles had to be waterproofed. This means that all electics and mechanical parts of the engine had to be protected against water. When the vehicile came off the ramp into the water it had to be driven ashore with the waterproofing still aroiund all parts liable to water damage. To learn this waterprooking and to pass it on toi other army units I was sent to Weymouth and instructed by civilian experts. The end part was to water proof a veciale and then goi out into Weymouth bay and drive that vecicle into deep water. The expert saying 'if you haven't done the job you'll have to swim back.'
