I lived in St Helena during the war and remember the ships calling in during the Cape Town run for supplies and refuelling. They were always coming and going. It was lovely as a teenage girl seeing so many sailors around!

There was one incident I recall that wasn鈥檛 so good. I think it was on 22nd October 1941 that a refuelling tanker was blown up. That was terrible.
